IEEBE offers an intensive training program based on international standards (SMPTE ST 2110, AES67, NMOS, PTP) designed for broadcast engineers, IT specialists, and professionals working in hybrid SDI/IP environments.

The course combines technical theory and practical examples to prepare participants for managing modern IP infrastructures.

The course was created in the United States and written by leading American specialists:

  • Dane E. Ericsen – Lead Engineer at Hammet & Edison (San Francisco), author of the NAB Engineering Handbook and numerous other broadcast publications.
  • Douglas W. Garlinger – Technical Director for 23 years at Indiana-based LeSEA Broadcasting Corporation, currently Senior Broadcast Engineer at Qualcomm MediaFLO. Former Technical Director of KHON-TV2 and KGMB-TV, as well as Central Broadcast Engineer and DTV RF Specialist at NBC.
  • Joe Snelson – Technical Director at Meredith Broadcast Group, also Technical Manager at KCTV (CBS) and several other TV stations.

He is a licensed broadcast operator in the U.S. and a certified broadcast engineer. Davit Robakidze is the chairman of IEEBE and the technical director of the company “Innovator.”

Session 1 (3 hours) – SMPTE ST 2110 and Related Standards

  • Overview of IP-for-TV Standards: ST 2022-2, 2022-6, 2059, 2110, AMWA IS-04/05
  • SMPTE ST 2110 Architecture: Essence Streams (Video, Audio, Ancillary Data)
  • Sub-standards of 2110 (2110-10, 20, 21, 22, 30, 31, 40) – detailed discussion
  • PTP (IEEE1588) and the importance of time synchronization
  • SDP (RFC4566) and NMOS control principles

 

Session 2 (3 hours) – Practical Implementation and Operation of ST 2110 in Hybrid Environments

  • Challenges of managing Hybrid SDI/IP infrastructures
  • Day-to-Day Operation in SDI/2110 Facilities – ensuring quality and reliability
  • Troubleshooting 2110 networks (Multicast Groups, RTP Timestamp, Essence Alignment)
  • Network Monitoring: SNMP, REST API, Syslog, DCIM
  • Security Monitoring and practical examples of PTP Failover

 

Session 3 (3 hours) – IP/2110 Infrastructure Design and Transport

  • 2110 Facility – Network Topology and Configuration
  • Practical Approaches to Network Segmentation and Prioritization
  • Transport Formats: Uncompressed (2110-20), Compressed (2110-22, JPEG-XS)
  • Use of ST 2110 in Large OB Trucks, Studios, and Cloud-to-Ground Transport
  • Bandwidth Planning and QoS (Quality of Service)

 

Session 4 (3 hours) – NDI, AOIP, and Practical Exercises

  • NDI (Network Device Interface) – key concepts and applications
  • Dante, AES67, and other AOIP standards – integration within 2110 environments
  • NMOS (IS-04, IS-05) and signal control
  • Hands-on Case Studies: Demonstration of Network Monitoring and PTP Configuration
  • Final Q&A and Recommendations for Implementing 2110
